ENGLISH CONVERSATION CLASS

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR? The ECC is for international students and family members who already have a basic understanding of English and would like to improve their English skills.

WHO IS TEACHING THE CLASS?  The ECC is offered by A&M International Fellowship, a Christian student organization at TAMU. The teachers are native English speakers who are trained by the chief instructor, Tim Thornton, to effectively present the class materials. Some of the teachers are A&M students or staff, and others are Bryan/College Station residents not affiliated with the university. Regardless of background, all of the teachers are there with a desire to help you improve your English!

WHAT IS TAUGHT? Class activities use a variety of techniques to help students improve their English language skills in many areas, including:

  • Listening and reading comprehension
  • Speaking and pronunciation skills
  • American English idioms and slang
  • Vocabulary
  • American culture and history
  • Current events

Class exercises are designed and authored by Tim Thornton. Some of the exercises include readings from the Bible, which the teachers believe is an important foundation of American culture.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES IT MEET? The ECC meets on Monday nights during the Fall and Spring semesters, 7:30 - 9:30pm in either Texas A&M's University Apartments Community Center (UACC) or in the Zachry Engineering Center on the A&M campus. Click the Class Locations link for details, including a map.

The first class meeting for the Fall 2009 semester is September 7th (in the UACC), and the last class meeting is November 23rd (see our Calendar of Events page for details). Students are welcome to start attending at any time during the semester.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? This class is absolutely FREE!
